In a news interview last week, a Presidential candidate said, “These are pivotal, perilous times.”
Regardless of ones political views, that statement seems to express the sentiments of many in our Nation and throughout the world. The apostle Paul warned perilous times would come. Hopefully Believers will see this as an opportunity to practice what we preach and be the channel by which hope is restored to the world as we stand confidently for the truth and live out before the world a message of rest and peace in the midst of uncertainty and chaos.
People want answers not promises. Could it be that “for such a time as this” the Church will rise to the challenge and be a voice that restores that hope? If we are to seize this moment the Church must be a courageous, covenant community of individuals who will not compromise conviction regardless of the cost. They will be grounded in faith and in the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. Speaking the truth in love, they will seek to live peaceably with all men. They neither cower to those who ridicule and persecute them, nor will they present themselves as better than others. They will maintain a culture of honor and respect for one another. They will live justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with their God. They will look not for affirmation from men, but from God. They have a passion for God’s Presence and endeavor to abide in the secret place of the Most High. They know they are in the world but not of it.
Their songs of worship and praise are expressions of love and devotion to God, birthed of a personal relationship with Christ and bathed in an ever- increasing faith. In these perilous times, will you, your family, and your coworkers commit to being a part of this covenant community—a voice of hope to the world?
